On Friday 13 November 1964, Clifford fulfilled a long-held ambition: he opened a store on a Friday the 13th. The new supermarket on High Fishgate, Doncaster had 9,000 square feet on the ground floor and 5,000 more above, selling groceries, drapery, hardware, books, toys and carpets.
By January 1965 a 100,000 square-foot warehouse was being completed on Clough Road, Hull, putting all the company’s storage under one roof. Savemore now employed about 350 people.
