In November 1963 Savemore Stores became part of the Mellin Group, with Clifford on the group’s board. The name of Savemore was, by then, “a household word, not only in Hull and district but in many parts of the country” — letters arrived asking for branches to be opened elsewhere.
What the Mellin Group was, and how the arrangement worked, is still being researched.
